Within PowerPoint, Microsoft offers over 60 readies to use motion paths and the option for tailor-making your own paths. This opens up a whole new world of animations that you can incorporate into your slides.

Adding Motion Paths

Step1. Click on the object you want to add a certain motion path to. It could be an image, a text or a shape from the Drawing section.

Step2. With the object (say a circle as shown in the image) selected, navigate to the Animations tab. In the Advanced Animation section of the ribbon, click on Add Animation.

Step 3. In the drop-down menu that pops up, scroll down to More Motion Paths.

Step 4. As you click on More Motion Paths, a dialog box with more than 60 premade motion path options will pop up. Choose the one you want to use and click OK.

Step 5. In case you have something particular in mind and want to custom make a motion path, under the Add Animation tab, scroll down to the More Motion Paths section and click on Custom Path. By doing so, you can manually draw out a path of your choice.

Step 6. After you insert the motion path, you can edit the path: make it longer or shorter, give the path slight variations etc.

To conclude, make use of motion paths to emphasize or draw attention to a point not distract from it. Play around with the Animations tab and you should be able to use all the new features in no time.
